Connecting to local server... timeout

I just got this game yesterday and I haven't been able to play it yet. I have gone through all the forum posts I can find. I have forwarded ports on my router, I have disabled the windows firewall, there is no anti virus running. Every time I launch the game it gets to the connecting to local server message and after about 30 seconds it says timeout and exits.

Any ideas?

Yep having the same issues. I have no firewalls running, no antivirus, etc; I did what cdv suggested: uninstalled game, then cleaned the registry, reinstalled with no patches and it actually worked the first 3 attempts. Unfortunately, we are back to timing out when "connecting to local server".

Isn't there some way I can rewrite the command dialog so it stops trying to connect to a server in the first place? I just want to use single player mode anyway.
