Quest Problems around Hedgenton

I recently picked up this game, (about 3 days ago) and I've seem to have hit a snag, and I'm not sure why.

I found my way to Hedgenton, and I began to complete the quests there, but I have two in my log I just cannot complete, one is Dragon Lungs, the other I can't recall the name of but it's killing 3 Dark Elves around Hedgenton.

I've completely explored everything around Hedgenton I could, above and below and I simply could not find the two creatures for these quests, the area is filled with Undead and Mummies and a few Thieves. It seems that for whatever reason, it's spawning Undead when I believe no Undead should be there. Though, I'm not sure as I've only had the game for 3 days.

Is there anyway to fix this, short of importing to a new game, or simply ignoring these two quests?

In case anyone is wondering, I'm a Battle Mage, level 41, at Shaddar's Tower part of the main quest, where you go to pick up the last element.

Thanks for any help I can get!

The reason for the undead spawning is the point you are at in the MQ, they start to spawn all over the game the moment you get the horn in Korad-Nur (I think). To sort the other side quests go to your log and highlight one of the outstanding side quests. You should then see a small blue pointer on the central compass, this will point directly to the place you need to go to complete that quest. Once you've done that highlight the other quest and follow the arrow again. If I remember right you get the lungs from a Wyvern and not a fully fledged dragon.

Thanks for the reply!

And I have been to the exact location on the map for both of these quests, and everything around it. And it's just more Undead. I had a feeling it might be the main quest though. Maybe I'll try to advance the story some and see if that helps.

I've come across your Dark elf problem once. The problem is, as you stated, because undead spawn all over Hedgenton. That's the main reason why I tended to do the Hedgenton side quests in act 1 or 2.

I think there's a way around: IIRC you only have to kill a specifed number of a specified monster type. I don't think you have to kill them in Hedgenton. Try looking for Dark Elves around Highmarsh. I'm not sure about wyverns, I think there are some south of Wolfdale.

You were correct on the Dark Elves, those did work. However, I've looked around and have been unable to find the same kind of work around for the Wyvern. There's some very close to the quest marker, but those are Verenidae or something, which are not the correct kind, nor are the ones north-west of Mascarell, or the ones north of Icecreek Pass, I'm almost positive the ones near Alkazaba are also not correct, but I didn't check'em.

Wolfsdale is also swarmed with Undead.

I may just go ahead and move on to the Underworld, as I just beat the game a little while ago, in hopes of clearing out those Undead.

I've just checked Wolfe's Lair for a refresher course on the Dragon Lung quest: the kind of Dracoid you actually need for this quest is Raptor Carnis, not Wyvern (Wyvern being another kind of Dracoid).

I remember that when I came across that undead swarm problem, I managed to finish those quests by being VERY patient, moving about between "grid zones", hoping that the next respawn would bring me the correct kind of monster.

Some side quests are quite difficult to complete in act 3, either because undead spawn in place of regular monsters, or because skeleton mages and mummies have ranged spells that tend to kill escorted NPCs or even quest givers.

Anyway, moving on to Underworld is a good idea, things are more exciting there and the loot seems to be statistically better.

I just managed to complete it. I managed to find about six or seven of them inside a cave south-west of Hedgenton. I'm not sure if they're always there, as I was in there before, I think, but I may not have had the quest at the time.

Thanks for the help guys!

In SP, I usually take the dragon lung quest and the DE quest when I first get to Hedgenton. You can complete these sort of quests miles away from where the blue pointer is. The dragon lung quest can be completed on the way to the lone dragon west of Mascarell (lots of small dragons), the DEs at any number of places but Zhurag Nur and Highmarsh would be the obvious choices.

I often take the Ornate Ritual staff quest at Braverock when I first enter the game (all portals open) and complete with either of the Sakarra priests in the 2 dungeons in Bellevue. The 10 brigands at Porto Draco can be completed NE of Mascarell. I once completed the stolen books of Bravebury on the way to Shaddar Nur.

In general, I would say that if they don't spawn immediately where they should, you can just carry on and they will spawn somewhere else. So far, touch wood, it has never failed.
