Spammers

I would like to suggest a report system where forum members can simply click on a link in any post to make a report of Spam or any other TOS violation. The reports should go to a Moderator common area so that whomever the first Moderator or above to login can then take care of it immediately without having to even enter the rest of the forum.

I work in the Wildtangent forum, they use IP.Board 3.2.3 and they have just such an option available to their Members. I'm sure there must be something similar available for vBulletin, at least I hope there is, as it makes the Spam battle go so much smoother.

If any Moderator or above wants further information, I would be happy to send a link to the forum via PM if they contact me.

Search for this symbol () and you get your report system

Spock, my friend, as Tornado has pointed out, they already have that available. Just look below your avy (when you are logged on)

I've used it numerous times. Not just for spam, but anything offensive too.

Even though we only have volunteers now, they do a fantastic job and when I have reported a post, it has been dealt with very quickly indeed. So thanks to the guys for thier work.

Steve.

Just goes to show how far behind the times I am.

I should have realized that was there. It would have saved me from sending out PMs to the Moderators. They were probably wondering why I singled them out for a PM instead of using the Report system. Ah well, I've learned so much from my mistakes I'm seriously thinking of making a lot more so I will end up knowing everything!

Don't worry Spock, that button is easily missed. It would have been better to say report on the button but that's part of the forum theme.

I was alarmed at just how quick these spammers post once they start. I logged in a few days ago just as one was spamming. Whilst deleting around 8 threads and banning them, another 3 threads had been opened

In the forum I work on I logged in to find a "Speed Spammer" hard at work. This was before I had the ability to take away their posting rights. I sent an email to an Admin requesting emergency assistance and had managed to delete over 100 Spam posts before the Admin arrived. In all over 300 had to be removed ... <thoughts not even entered as inappropriate language for any forum>.
