Damage text flickering

Sometimes, usually when there is a fair number of of numbers floating about, some of the numbers wull flicker in most annoying fashion, as though the game were trying to display the same graphic in two places at once (which is exactly what it looks like, as the flickering numbers always are flickering between two different positions). This is not limited to numbers, I have seen it crop up in most flavours of floating text. Anyone encountered this before, and if so, how did you solve it?

Can you upload your dxdiag.txt?

Quote:
In the Start menu, use the run command.

In the new window, type dxdiag and click on the "OK" button.

In the new window, click on save the system information and and make sure you note the location of the resulting dxdiag.txt file.
Upload:

editor (message window) --> go advanced --> click "manage attachments" or click )?

The dxdiag.txt looks good.

Play you in windows mode?

For ati/amd cards:
  • try to deactivate full screen anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering in sacred's settings.cfg file and in your gfx-card settings-menu
  • deactivate the catalyst A.I feature if you have a AMD/ATI gfx-board

Other tip is to tweak the settings.cfg:

You find to the end a entry for flickering (WAITRETRACE). Maybe a other value can fix it.

I hate playing in windows... suppose I could try it though. I have tried all sorts of settings, with waitretrace 0 the game is nearly playable, but it stutters pretty bad, even when at mid zoom. There is no 'deactivate' option in CCC for the catalysts AI, but I tried the various settings with no effect.

Not entirely sure how to describe this, but it often seems liek the mouse is reacting sluggishly. But out of all of the problems, it is that screwy text that is hardest on the eyes.

A tip in that regard is having the tft/lcd monitor at 1024x768 resolution as well as setting the in-game resolution to 1024x768 (highest in-game resolution). That way it is possible to play the game in windowed mode with the appearance of full screen.

Running in a window doesn't seem to help at all. I am kinda surprised, I have done some searching, and I can find no one else who has had this problem. Bloody odd.

Other tips include applying patch 2.28 (latest patch for Sacred Gold and Underworld versions only) and you could try setting compatibility mode for Windows Xp SP3 though due to the age of the latest patch, it may not be possible to fix all issues:
  1. Click Start and find the execution file for Sacred via the run window
  2. Right click the the execution file for Sacred and click properties
  3. Click the compatibility folder of the window that appeared
  4. Now set the the execution file to WinXp SP3 compatibility mode and check "run as admin".

Patched, and already tried most compatability modes, including that one. I get best performance out of xp sp2, but the screwy text appears in all of 'em.

I think we can't fix this problem, but maybe this topic can help:

IMHO a screenshot of this problem might give us a better idea of what's going on.
